The internal budget of the Parliament of the German-speaking Community


The costs of the Parliament of the German-speaking Community as legislative body are exclusively financed by the annual budget of the Community and, if necessary, by the Parliament’s reserve. Below is a summary overview of the income and expenditure budget of the Parliament of the German-speaking Community during 2010.

How much does the Parliament of the German-speaking Community cost?

How much does the President of the Parliament earn?

The current amount of the President’s monthly indexed gross pay is 7,835.66 EUR (in March 2009) before deductions for tax and pension fund payments.

The President also gets a monthly untaxed compensation worth 1,682.19 EUR for the specific tasks.

The President has the right to claim a monthly compensation for travel up to 2,000 Km. Unlike other members of the Parliament, s/he does not receive any session compensation.

How much does a member of the Bureau earn?

Each member of the Bureau gets a monthly compensation of 368.36 EUR (March 2009). Just like the other members of Parliament, s/he gets extra attendance compensations (184.18 EUR gross per session day). Each member of the Bureau is taxed on these compensations and has to make pension fund payments.

Each of them is paid a monthly travel compensation up to 1,000 km (1,300 km for the members of the Bureau living in the Eifel) as well as a compensation for travel to the official parliamentary sessions.

How much does a parliamentarian earn?

A parliamentarian who does not enjoy a President status and who does not belong to the Bureau gets a monthly indexed compensation adding up to 184.18 euros gross (amount dated March 2009); s/he also receives an attendance compensation worth the same total per session day.

Each parliamentary member is taxed on these compensations; s/he also has to make pension fund payments.

Moreover, s/he is paid a trip compensation up to 500 km (650 km for the members living in the Eifel) as well as a compensation for the trips made in order to go to the parliamentary sessions.

How much do the recognized parliamentary groups earn?

  • Allowances: The recognized parliamentary groups (constituted by at least 3 parliamentarians) are entitled to a gross pay intended for a scientific associate as well as for an employee having just started to work who support the political basic pieces of work of the group.
  • Entertainment allowances: Each recognized parliamentary group gets a yearly sum of 5,000 EUR for the working of the department and every parliamentarian of each group yearly receives 2,500 EUR.
    Each group also gets an additional subsidy for the measures intended to better its workload. The current indexed sum adds up to 45,784.92 EUR per year.
  • Infrastructure and office equipment: Every recognized parliamentary group is entitled to a workplace and a meeting room, to furniture, to a computer, to a fax, to Internet access, to photocopier access, etc.

How much do non-recognized parliamentarian groups earn?

The non-recognized parliamentarian groups (2 members of the council) and independent members are entitled to get a financial support for a secretariat, but this support is lower than that for the recognized groups .
