The DG in Europe
The European ideal is deeply engrained in the identity and consciousness of the DG and its citizens. The people are familiar with their European neighbours and neighbourhoods across the border, maintaining close ties of friendship, employment and culture; many are at ease not only in their German mother tongue, but also in French or Dutch.
The DG is integrated within Euregional and European structures.
- it draws up treaties with European partner regions (such as South Tyrol) or states (such as the Republic of Hungary);
- it ratifies European and international accords, insofar as they affect the sovereignty of the DG (such as the European Draft Constitution);
- it is a member of the Maas-Rhine Euregio and Greater Region;
- it has political representation at the EU.
